Day 2 – West Virginia, Home of the Mountaineers

Another early start to the day, thanks to Christopher, who likes to pounce on lumps in the covers. Donna got it this time. Up at 6:45 am, much earlier than planned as we had “only” a 240 mile drive. We hit the road at 7:45 am.

An easy drive on I-81 to I-64 West, then we were reminded of why the WVU folks are “Mountaineers.” The road goes up and up, over and around, and very occasionally down. Our GPS time line went out the window. Knowing WV well, we gassed up before leaving VA, only a $0.30+ differential.

Our scheduled stop for lunch was near Beckley, WV at the Exit 45 Service area. Why there? The Tamarack, the best of WV juried crafts and art is located there. There was plenty of parking for everyone, even RVs. This is no open-air flea market, but a modern air conditioned circular building with just about anything imaginable for sale. The Tamarack even has a food court/cafeteria run by The Greenbriar. Our lunch was very good and priced about right considering location and quality of food. This was a great, relaxing mid-day respite. No, I did not buy one of the beautiful wooden high back rockers I liked. But there is the trip home!!!! Where would we put it she says?  Hmmm!   I's got 2 weeks to think!

We arrived at our new home for the next 4 days, Fox Fire RV Resort in Milton, WV. The campground is very nice and we are even parked in the shade of a huge oak tree. Weather is lesser hotter, but mucher humider! Did anyone mention glass country? Blenko Glass is here in town. Donna found a discount card (at Tamarack) for a tent sale at Fenton Glass up in Williamstown, WV. Donna wants to send us up the river, the Ohio River for points north.  Read Williamstown. Add to that the proximity to a renowned eatery just a few miles up the Ohio River at Lesage, WV and it sounds like a great weekend upcoming. Stay tuned for more thrills, chills, and high adventure.
